Three people have been taken to hospital after a “serious” crash which blocked access to Edinburgh Airport on Monday morning.

Police Scotland said the A8 was closed at Newbridge after a multi-vehicle collision was reported at around 9.25am.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said three ambulances, two special operations response teams, a paramedic response unit and a critical care paramedic were dispatched to the scene.

Three patients were transported to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Traffic for the airport has been advised to use another route, taking the M8 onto the bypass and up to Gogar.

Emergency services remain in attendance and diversions are being put in place.

Posting about the crash on X, Edinburgh Airport said “delays getting to the airport are expected”.

“We’re working closely with the emergency services and relevant partners to manage access to the airport following this incident,” a spokesman for Edinburgh Airport said.

“Passengers should allow additional time to reach the airport and consider alternative routes or modes of transport where possible. Anyone concerned about their travel plans should contact their airline directly for the latest advice.

“We appreciate the disruption this will cause and will continue to work with Police Scotland and other partners throughout the day.”
