Woman killed in two-car crash named by police

A woman who died in a two-vehicle crash in Dumfries and Galloway has been named by police.
The collision involving a Volkswagen Golf and a Suzuki S-Cross happened on the A714 near Newton Stewart at around 9.35am on Wednesday.
Police said Helen Flannighan, 65, a passenger in the Suzuki, died at the scene.
The 72-year-old man driving the Suzuki was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, while the driver of the Golf, a 34-year-old woman, was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.
Sergeant Lindsey Tait said: “Our thoughts remain with Helen’s family at this extremely difficult time.
“Our inquiries into the crash continue and I’d like to thank those who have come forward with information.
“I’d urge anyone who hasn’t yet spoken to police and witnessed the crash, or has dashcam footage which could assist us, to get in touch.”
Anyone with information about the crash, which happened between Newton Stewart and Wigtown, is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0887 of June 3.
