Justin Devenny will be out to impress the new Crystal Palace manager whoever it may be when he pulls on the Northern Ireland shirt this week.

With Oliver Glasner leaving Selhurst Park this summer after delivering both the FA Cup and Conference League in the last two seasons, Palace have been linked with Lens coach Pierre Sage, Coventry boss Frank Lampard and former Tottenham manager Thomas Frank among others.

Before an appointment is even made, Devenny is keen to audition for a regular starting role as Northern Ireland face Guinea and France in a pair of friendlies.

“If I was to guess I would say the first match (the new manager) would watch would be my most recent one, so hopefully I can go in and do well for myself and just give a good account of myself,” Devenny said.

“It is a fresh start when I get back so I will be looking to kick on and do well.”

It is a little under three years since Devenny swapped Airdrie for Palace’s under-21s squad as a teenager.

He has joined up with Northern Ireland this week still beaming from Eagles’ celebrations following their European success.

Devenny admitted he would have asked “what was in your drink” if someone would have told him what was ahead while he was still playing in Scotland, but he is not satisfied yet.

Only 11 of his 32 Palace appearances this season were from the start, and establishing himself in the first-choice XI is his next goal.

“With every season, every game throughout my career, it has progressed pretty quick, but I’ve been in and out, getting minutes here and there,” he said. “My intentions will be going back for pre-season and really just hitting the ground running and trying my best and keep working hard.

“You never know, because things change a lot in football and they change quick. I just need to keep focusing on myself, work hard. It’s almost a fresh start for everyone when we get back and it just brings opportunities. I want to be playing week-in, week-out, and hopefully I’ll do that.”
