Fianna Fail TD Malcolm Byrne arrested on suspicion of drink driving

Fianna Fail TD Malcolm Byrne has confirmed he was arrested by gardai last week on suspicion of drink driving.
The Wicklow-Wexford representative said he was “co-operating fully” with the Garda investigation.
Mr Byrne said he informed Fianna Fail of his arrest on Thursday morning immediately after it happened.
“Early on Thursday morning, while travelling from my hotel in Dublin to Dublin Airport, I was stopped at a mandatory Garda checkpoint in Dublin city centre, close to my hotel, and I was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drink driving,” he said.
“I am co-operating fully with An Garda Siochana. As the matter is ongoing, it would not be appropriate for me to comment further at this stage.
“I informed the party of this matter immediately.”
In a statement, Fianna Fail said: “The party has been informed by Deputy Malcolm Byrne that he was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after he was stopped at a mandatory Garda checkpoint in Dublin.
“The party will consider any developments in relation to this matter.
“As this is an ongoing investigation and Deputy Byrne is co-operating fully with An Garda Siochana, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.”
