Gardai are investigating the death of a woman who was found near an emergency residential premises in Co Galway.

The woman, aged in her 30s, was discovered close to the accommodation near the Galway Road in Clifden on Thursday.

A man, also aged in his 30s, has been arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. Gardai said the man was receiving medical treatment.

Gardai said they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident and were following a definite line of inquiry.

The scene remained preserved on Thursday afternoon for an examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

The offices of the Coroner and the State Pathologist have been notified.

A post mortem examination will be carried out.

Gardai said the results of the post-mortem would assist in determining the course of the investigation.
