10% cut to gas prices for Firmus Energy customers in Ten Towns area

It follows a review of the regulated gas tariff for Firmus Energy by the Utility Regulator.

A 10% price cut for gas has been announced for customers of Firmus Energy living in the Ten Towns area of Northern Ireland.

It follows a review of the regulated gas tariff for the firm in the area by the Utility Regulator.

The decrease of 10.1%, or £94 per year, will come into effect from April 1.

Colin Broomfield, director of markets at the Utility Regulator, said the move comes following a reduction in wholesale gas prices.

However Mr Broomfield said the analysis was completed before the latest conflict in the Middle East, which he said has impacted gas prices globally, adding that they expect that wholesale gas prices will remain volatile while the conflict continues.

“In early February 2026, we began a formal review of the regulated tariff for domestic and small business gas customers of Firmus Energy,” he said.

“Our analysis has resulted in a 10.1%, or £94 per year, decrease to the regulated tariff for domestic and small business customers in the Ten Towns area.

“The decrease will come into effect on April 1 2026.

“This follows on from the announcement last week that SSE Airtricity Gas Supply’s regulated tariff is reducing by 8.1% or £80 per year.

“The reasons for this reduction to Firmus Energy’s regulated gas tariff are due to a fall in wholesale gas costs and an over-recovery being returned to customers.”

Mr Broomfield added that those who are worried about paying for their electricity or gas should contact their supplier in the first instance and discuss options.

“In addition, there are a number of agencies who can provide free and independent advice to households, including Advice NI, Christians Against Poverty, the Consumer Council and Money and Pensions Service’s MoneyHelper,” he said.

Ryan Miskimmin, sales director at Firmus Energy, said it is the third consecutive tariff reduction for the Ten Towns Network in the space of a 13-month period.

“Since April last year, our consecutive reductions have decreased our tariffs by 27% with a cumulative saving of around £300 per customer,” he said.

“We know that these savings, coupled with the constant heat and instant hot water that natural gas provides, will be warmly welcomed by customers in the Ten Towns Network.”

Mr Miskimmin added that the Greater Belfast Network area tariff is also currently under review by the company.
